Providing Excellent Patient Experience

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital has once again been recognized for excellence in patient care. Numerous departments received 2022 Excellence in Healthcare Awards, based on data from patient surveys* for services performed in 2021. Outpatient pain management services earned the prestigious top performer award for scoring at the 100th percentile in overall quality of care.

Twelve departments earned a 5-Star award. This is given to health care departments that score in the top 10% at or above the 90th percentile.

U.S. News & World Report has released the 2023-24 awards and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital has been rated as “high performing” for these procedures and recognized for exceptional quality delivered by our team.

Quality Leadership Performance - Vizient

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is recognized in the top decile of their peer group by Vizient, Inc. The annual rankings are based on a series of metrics from July 2021 through June 2022, including mortality, safety, patient experience, readmissions, efficiency and health equity. Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital was number 7 out of 268 participating health systems in the community hospital cohort.

Heart of the Community - The City of Creve Coeur

The City of Creve Coeur honored Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital with the 2019 Heart of the Community Award. The Creve Coeur Economic Development Committee determined that the hospital’s commitment to providing highly-specialized care, community benefit services, and educational opportunities in partnership with local schools exemplified this award.

Top Performer on Key Quality Measures - The Joint Commission

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2015 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for surgical care, VTE (venous thromboembolism) and immunization. Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is one of only 1,043 hospitals out of more than 3,300 eligible hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2014 Top Performer distinction. We also are one of only five hospitals in the St. Louis area and 20 in Missouri to achieve this honor.

In order to be named a Top Performer, a hospital must:

  • Achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
  • Achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure with at least 30 denominator cases; and
  • Have at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set, achieve a performance rate of 95 percent or above on all applicable individual accountability measures.

Honored for delivering high-quality, safe patient care - American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

July 2015, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) granted a three-year renewal recognition for quality and safety to Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors those that have demonstrated a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy as evidenced by meeting the program’s rigorous criteria, which includes following the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection control guidelines and ensuring endoscopy staff competency.
