Insurance Coverage for Outpatient Nutrition Counseling Services
While there is typically a fee charged to receive Nutrition Counseling services at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, many health insurance plans cover this cost. Because health insurance coverage varies greatly, we suggest that you or your physician's office contact your health insurance company regarding coverage. Please note, at this time, Medicare will only cover nutrition counseling for diabetes and kidney disease.
It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company regarding coverage or prior authorization for any outpatient Nutrition Counseling services requested by your physician.

When you call your insurance company, you may be asked to provide the following information:
- Your diagnosis.
- Why you are being seen, example: "Medical Nutrition Therapy for [your condition]"
- CPT code 97802 or 97803.
- The provider is: Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
