The Creve Coeur Economic Development Committee determined that the hospital’s commitment to providing highly-specialized care, community benefit services, and educational opportunities in partnership with local schools exemplified this award.

BJC Book Brigade Marches On

In its fourth year, the BJC Book Brigade provides more than 26,000 books to rising third-graders in over 300 public and charter schools in 63 districts throughout the communities served by BJC hospitals. As part of the program, Trish Lollo, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital president, visited Ross Elementary on May 9 to read to second graders and help give out books.

Arming Radiation Oncology Patients with Comfort

Radiation oncology patients are armed with warmth while receiving treatments at the Siteman Cancer Center located at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. Patients’ arms are exposed when they wear gowns, and the fleece arm sleeves are a welcome touch. On April 4, Jossalyn Larson wore the sleeves for the last time during her final radiation treatment.

He’s not leaving medicine entirely, but the 83-year-old surgeon (he’ll turn 84 at the end of April) will no longer be in private practice at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, his home off and on throughout his long, illustrious career.

The twin pines were an important landmark tying the hospital to the farmland it was built on. The pines will be incorporated into design elements in the new Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, opening later this year.
