As a patient of Siteman Cancer Center, you will have the expertise of more than 350 Washington University research scientists and physicians who provide cancer care throughout the St. Louis region.

Washington University physicians diagnose and treat thousands of patients each year and the multidisciplinary team is with you every step of the way. We offer:

  • Washington University physician care: Our physicians are nationally recognized for their cancer expertise. Washington University medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons who staff Siteman Cancer Center in West County also practice at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital medical campus.
  • Clinical trials: Washington University physicians offer more than 350 clinical trials to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. As a patient, you can have a research coordinator talk with you about possible participation in a clinical trial. Access to new studies, medications and treatments are not available at all cancer centers.
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation: In 2005, Siteman Cancer Center received the Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the NCI.
  • National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN): In 2006, the Siteman Cancer Center joined as a NCCN member. These world-wide institutions are dedicated to improving the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of cancer care.
  • National recognitionSiteman Cancer Center consistently is rated among the top cancer facilities in the nation. In 2021-22, it was named the No. 10 cancer center in the country and No. 1 in St. Louis and Missouri by U.S. News & World Report.

CONDITIONS AND TYPES OF CANCERS WE TREAT

CANCER TREATMENT SERVICES

  • Imaging:  Clinical expertise in diagnostic imaging comes from the renowned faculty of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine, an international leader in the imaging of cancer and other diseases and disorders.
  • Surgery:  Robotic and minimally invasive surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery is available at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
  • Chemotherapy: Siteman Cancer Center treats patients using chemotherapy approaches. Your multidisciplinary team will ensure that you are receiving appropriate treatment, even down to the genetic level.
  • Radiation therapy: Siteman Cancer Center is a leader in using shorter radiation durations than the national average with the same outcomes.
  • Blood transfusions: Cancer patients may require donated blood. Common types include red blood cells, platelets or plasma. Donated blood is tested according to national guidelines, as is disposed of properly if there is any question that the blood is not safe. To donate, please contact our Pheresis Center.
  • Laboratory services: Our pathologists perform regular blood work for patients and a dedicated outpatient laboratory is conveniently located on site.
  • Retail pharmacy: Conveniently located within the Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University pharmacists offer services focusing on cancer patients. Based on the recommendations of your physician, the retail pharmacy can fill prescriptions for: oral chemotherapy, self-injected medications, pain management and supportive care drugs.
  • Support programs and educational materials: Receiving news that you have been diagnosed with cancer is difficult. Staff, including nurses with specialized training in caring for cancer patients, will work with you in finding ways to gain support from family, friends and caregivers.
  • Healing Garden: Patients and caregivers can enjoy a beautiful area at the Siteman Cancer Center as part of their healing process.
  • Convenience: At Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, this comfortable setting is conveniently located in West St. Louis County. Patients can enjoy free parking and easy access. If additional services are needed, your physician will discuss your options at our other satellite facilities.
