The event signified the start of construction on the replacement hospital and celebrated the future of medicine in Creve Coeur.  “Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is a major component of our thriving medical sector and we are glad that through this new facility Creve Coeur residents and those in the entire St. Louis region will have access to leading edge health care for so many years to come, ” said Creve Coeur mayor, Barry Glantz.

Honoring our past

Trish Lollo, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital president, recognized the continuation of caring for the community envisioned by the Signorelli family, who attended the groundbreaking, when they opened Faith Hospital in Creve Coeur in 1969.  “In 1989, the former Barnes Hospital purchased Faith Hospital and our organization was entrusted the responsibility to continue the mission of improving the health in our community and delivering the highest quality care to patients,” she said.

Extraordinary staff and physicians are our foundation

“This new hospital is so much more than bricks and mortar and modern equipment,” Lollo said. “Buildings allow us to do what we do, but it is the people inside who make us extraordinary.  “Our employees, physicians and leaders are our foundation. Each play a vital role within our walls and the new hospital will further enable our team to achieve our goals of providing excellent care and advancing medicine for our patients.”

Exceptional care in an intimate setting

C.B. Boswell, MD, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital chief of medical staff, has been providing care on the Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital campus for 16 years. “We all know patients have a choice when seeking medical and surgical services, and this hospital is located in one of the most competitive areas for health care in St. Louis,” he said “But while we are surrounded by hospitals with 500+ beds, our size is one of our biggest assets. Patients choose this hospital because they know we provide high quality care and they have access to world-class physicians in an intimate community setting.”

Strengthening our partnership with Washington University School of Medicine

David Perlmutter, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of Washington University School of Medicine, shared that the new hospital will strengthen and enhance that connection of providing world-class medicine.  Washington University has been a long-time partner in care with Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and over the years has expanded their presence on the campus with the Siteman Cancer Center, emergency medicine, bariatric services, imaging and orthopedics.

Providing the world’s best medicine as part of BJC HealthCare

“Each of our hospitals has the opportunity to be the best in the world at something,” said Steve Lipstein, CEO of BJC HealthCare. “Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital has always stood proud on being a relatively small hospital, but being very patient centric, very responsive to the needs of the local community and very committed to the people of Creve Coeur. Speaking on behalf of all the people who work for BJC HealthCare, we couldn’t be more proud of you and of our service to this community and of the hospital that we are about to build.”

Replacement hospital opening in 2019

In 2019, the new Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital will open its doors and continue the mission of improving the health in our community and delivering the highest quality care to patients. The replacement hospital will continue to provide short-stay surgical and medical care in a setting that is contemporary, efficient, innovative and patient centered. It will open with 64 private patient rooms and 14 operating rooms with space for expansion to response to future demand. To enhance the patient experience, a new medical office building will connect to the hospital with parking underneath and our campus will have a new walking path with beautiful landscaping.
