Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center in South County Offers One-on-One Physical Therapy at Convenient Location

January 2018

The physical therapists at the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center (STAR) in south county provide a variety of specialized and personalized physical therapy treatments for patients of all ages.

Whether you are an athlete suffering from pain, an older adult recovering from a total joint replacement working on strength and mobility, or a cancer patient in need of relief from treatment complications, the licensed physical therapists can provide an individualized approach that will help you get back to the activity level that meets your needs.

Located at I-55 and Butler Hill Rd, STAR South County is one of three Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center locations, including Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur and the Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Orthopedic Center in Chesterfield.

One of the primary goals of the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center south county location is to support the medical services found at the Center for Advanced Medicine in south county and the larger south county community with rehabilitative services,” says Matthew Green, MPT, manager of rehabilitation services.

These include oncology and lymphedema treatment physical therapy services for Siteman Cancer Center patients and orthopedic and sports injury recovery physical therapy services for Washington University Orthopedics and sports medicine patients, as well as many other specialty areas of medicine found at the Center for Advanced Medicine in south county.

In addition, STAR South County has identified a need for women’s health-related physical therapy services, including physical therapy for pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction. Therapists also work with young children to teens for both orthopedic therapy and pelvic-related therapy.

Christina Dolan, DPT, WCS, CLT, is one of four physical therapists at Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center in south county. Her focus is on specialized therapy for cancer patients; women’s health patients who seek treatment for issues such as pain with intercourse, incontinence and pelvic problems; musculoskeletal pain in pregnancy and postpartum; and children who need help in resolving problems such as bed-wetting, severe constipation and urinary and stool leakage through pediatric pelvic floor therapy.

“I love what I do because I feel like I am helping to change quality-of-life factors for my patients by providing specialized treatments,” Dolan says. “Whether I am helping cancer patients get back to their normal function or teenagers who no longer have (urinary) accidents and feel more confident in their daily lives, the work I do is really rewarding.”

A Focus on Personalized, Effective Physical Therapy

One of the most distinguishing factors that sets the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center apart from other physical therapy centers is its one-on-one care customized to the individual patient, Green says. More than 35 therapists and staff provide this individualized care at all three locations for a variety of patients and their specialized needs.

STAR therapists offer treatments for such conditions as arthritis (help with aging), endurance athlete-related injuries, fatigue related to cancer and medical treatments, joint, neck and low back pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and pre- and post-surgery conditions to name a few. The south county location will be also adding medical massage therapy to complement STAR physical therapy in late 2018.

Our one-on-one care provides patients with undivided attention,” Green says. “The knowledge and skill of our therapists is excellent, along with the customer service focus of all of our employees.”

This also includes rehab services representatives who help patients with scheduling, referrals and coordinating insurance needs.

At STAR South County, Aaron DeGreeff, DPT, values the supportive environment the entire team has created for their patients and one another.

We also have a unique working relationship with the physicians because of our location in the Center for Advanced Medicine and collaborate to develop comprehensive and effective treatment plans,” he says. “At STAR South County, we strive to create and foster a culture aimed at positively motivating people and helping to restore them to normal function. Thanks to the one-on-one time we have with our patients, we can develop relationships and get to know and understand their individual needs.”

Now with three locations, STAR physical therapy reaches a wide number of patients in the greater St. Louis area.  “Having three clinics provides patients with more options closer to their home,” Green adds.
