Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital Earns Top Performer and Four 5-Star Awards from PRC

BJWCH received a Top Performer Award and four 5-Star Awards from PRC in its National Excellence in Healthcare Awards. Our outpatient endoscopy department received the Top Performer Award for finishing above the 100th percentile nationally. The emergency department, outpatient endoscopy, outpatient surgery services and outpatient services at BJWCH each received a 5-Star Award for finishing above the 90th percentile nationally. The awards come from PRC for 2013 performance. BJWCH received recognition for their achievement at a national conference in June held in St. Louis.

16-year-old endures tough eye surgeries with grace and maturity. Dory Pearlstone, an active 16-year-old, lives with her parents, Gregg and Nikki Pearlstone, in Chesterfield, Mo. Dory was diagnosed with Graves disease at 11 years old. This autoimmune disorder leads to an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism). Hyperthyroidism caused her right eye socket to harden and her eye to bulge. When she was 14 years old, she was referred to Steven Couch, MD, Washington University oculofacial plastic surgeon at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. “That was the best thing that could have happened to her,” says her mom, Nikki Pearlstone.
