A Higher Level of Care

At Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, it is our commitment to deliver compassionate, highly skilled critical care to patients in our Special Care Unit (SCU). Critical care units are special due to their unique blend of sophisticated equipment, skillfully trained staff and teamwork involved in caring for the patients.

Our Special Care Unit is for acutely ill patients whose condition does not warrant a Level 1 intensive care unit, but who require intense monitoring and specialized nursing care.

Consisting of eight private rooms, the SCU is staffed by experienced nurses who are certified in advanced cardiac life support, ventilation and advanced critical care training.
