Endoscopic Therapy FAQs

If you’re considering endoscopic therapy for weight loss, we have answers to many common questions about the procedure and our program.

How will my diet change before and after my weight loss procedure?

Your care team will tell you exactly what to do to prepare for the procedure. It is important that you follow these dietary guidelines. Typically, you should not consume any food or liquids 12 hours before a nonsurgical procedure.

After your procedure, you will most likely start with a clear liquid diet and progress to full liquids, then pureed foods, then soft foods. As you feel comfortable, you can transition to regular foods based on your individual calorie prescription from your registered dietitian. The guidelines for transitioning to regular foods may vary slightly for each procedure.

As you progress through the 12-month lifestyle therapy program, our dietitians provide counseling to teach you about healthy foods to eat and foods to avoid. In general, you can expect to eat adequate protein, fewer fried or fast foods, and fewer high-fat or high-sugar foods.
